The Joys of Choir

i used to think choir was pretty boring, you sing, people tell you what your doing wrong, you sing some more til you get it right and that's it.

the choir at church seems to have evolved into something that i never expected would happen, choir has turned into a happy joyous ministry where (young) people go to serve God through song and have a fantastic time in doing so.

take for example yesterday, and probably many times before that as well. after swiftly completing the song that we set out to practice with complete efficiency and professionalism, we decided to practice another to familiarise ourselves with the song, i can't remember it now.

now having 4 handwritten verses in it, it was quite a task to read for myself, and so at one point in the song i mistakenly sang the wrong line of the song.

now, that was a minor and harmless mistake to make, anyone could have done it, but what happened after was like a snowball effect. the fact that my fellow subwoofer brother Tim heard my musical error prompted him to laugh, and in turn making me laugh, in turn making Tim laugh louder, and in turn making me laugh louder as well, and as a result, we ended up laughing the rest of the song, and in the process making us look like complete idiots. i have no idea what our new conductor Josephine must of thought of us, oh, happy times hey Timmy? well, its good to get them out of the way during practice and not when we actually have to present it on a Sunday, which i have done in the past, don't know if this new breed of choir members will be able to handle that kind of error on a Sunday, we just need to acknowledge it and soldier on team!

and speaking of Josephine, she has been a blessing to the ministry, especially with her warming up exercises and all the funny noises that she makes us do before we actually sing. this morning we were doing all these exercises involving:

ss ss ss ss ss ss, and..
ho ho ho ho ho ho, and...
me me me me me me.

i could sense that Amy our pianist was probably laughing her ass off on the inside, i probably would have found it very hard to contain myself if it were me, but hey, if its going to make me a better subwoofer, i'll all in!
